Hortencia Hinojosa Sánchez

Hortensia Hinojosa Sánchez practices Kenpo at the Alfa Kenpo Academy in Aguascalientes, Mexico, and currently has the rank of black belt-green line. In December 2024 she hopes to take her exam for third degree black-brown belt. Hortensia started practicing Kenpo from the age of 5. Kenpo Karate was an extra activity in the kindergarten in which she studied, and for two years it was a mandatory activity directed by Sensei Erick Alfaro to develop the skills of discipline and responsibility. If you wanted to advance in the program, you had the option of going to the Alfa Kenpo Academy, so starting in second grade Hortensia joined with the aim of participating 3 times a week.

In 2019 she took time off from Kenpo, and it was not until 2020 when the pandemic began that she decided to return since Sensei Alfaro contacted her and told her that classes would be held virtually.

From August 2022 to now, her Sensei Erick Alfaro gave her the opportunity to be a helper on Fridays and Saturdays for the children’s classes, and it was something that helped her to have confidence in herself.

In 2023, Hortensia and her teammates were given the news that they were selected for the Kempo World Cup in Portugal. They knew that they had to work twice or three times as hard as normal to achieve the physical condition they needed, and that effort was reflected in the competition.

In September 2023 Hortensia took the exam to earn the black belt-green line of the adult program. She also finished her first year of secondary education, where she obtained third place in achievement.

Hortensia has participated in a variety of tournaments in Mexico, the United States, and Portugal, as well as a virtual tournament, and she has earned medals in sparring, forms, team forms, weapons, and self-defense divisions.
