Kathy Owen is an 8th Degree Black Belt in American Kenpo who started her Martial Arts training in 1977. She received her 1st degree black belt in Kenpo Karate in 1983. She has also trained in Aikido, Bushidokan, Filipino Arnis, Judo, and Shotokan.
Ms. Owen has owned and operated Newark Kenpo Karate in Newark, Delaware, since 1988. She has successfully participated in a variety of tournaments both in the United States as well as internationally, and also directs a demonstration team that performs throughout the world.
Ms. Owen teaches “Street Smarts” self-defense workshops for community groups and businesses. These classes focus on self-defense for the average person. Ms. Owen also conducts Kenpo Karate seminars around the world and is a frequent presenter at the American Kenpo Karate International (AKKI) Training Camps in Las Vegas, Nevada. Furthermore, Ms. Owen teaches at Newark Kenpo Karate 6 days a week and is a certified Personal Fitness Trainer.
