Ana Sofia Ponce Gutiérrez

Ana Sofia Ponce Gutiérrez is an athlete of Mexican nationality. She  has been practicing Kenpo at the Alfa Kenpo school, directed by teacher Erick Alfaro, since 2016.

Sofia’s Kenpo journey started when she was 4 years old. In kindergarten her teacher decided to give some classes to the students in her school. After that, her teacher asked to speak with her parents to invite her to practice at their central school, and her parents accepted. She remembers that when her training began, the first day was incredible, and she loved it, so she decided to continue going to train.

In 2019, Sofia was unable to participate in important tournaments due to some financial problems that her family had, as well as to a serious illness that her mother suffered, but Sofia thanks God that her mother managed to recover. On December 16, 2019, she earned her junior black belt. It was one of the best exams she had in her life.

In 2023, after IKF Portugal, Sofia’s preparation for her black belt began. It was difficult, but that is what made it worth it. On December 9, 2023, she had an excellent exam in which she achieved her black belt. Knowing everything she had achieved up to that point, Sofia says she wouldn’t change it for anything in the world. She is very grateful to life for presenting her with such a great opportunity to practice this great sport.

Sofia has participated in a variety of tournaments in Mexico, the United States, Brazil, Turkey, and Portugal, and she has achieved first place in many sparring, forms, weapons, and self-defense divisions.

Sofia trained for the IKC 2024, which was held for the second time in Aguascalientes, Mexico, and Sofia says she will continue training hard until she achieves all her goals.
